The questions that come up most often. If yours isn't here, write to us via the contact page.

The game

Does it cost money to play?
No. Creating an account and playing is free.
Is any money wagered?
No. There is no money betting, no cash prizes and no connection whatsoever to bookmakers. You play for points and for your place on the leaderboard.
Do I need to install an app?
No. The game runs in your phone or computer browser. There is also an Android app that loads the same version of the game, for anyone who prefers having an icon on their phone.
Do I need to know a lot about football?
It helps, but it matters less than you might think. Since you predict the exact score and there are bonuses for backing results the majority won't risk, intuition and a willingness to take chances are worth as much as technical knowledge. In almost every group there's someone who doesn't follow football and spends half the season on the podium.

Scoring

How many points is a correct prediction worth?
Getting the exact score right is worth considerably more than just picking who won. The exact values vary from competition to competition - the table in force is under the Rules button inside each competition. The mechanics are explained in rules and scoring.
If I get the exact score right, do I also add the outcome point?
No. Scores don't stack - getting the exact score right already includes the outcome, so you don't receive both. The only one that stacks is the near miss, which is added on top of the outcome.
What exactly is a "near miss"?
It's a bonus for getting close: you earn it when you get one team's goal count right and miss the other by exactly one goal. Example: you predicted 2-1 and the match ended 2-0 - you got the first team's 2 right and missed the second by one goal, so you add the near miss to the outcome. How much it's worth varies from competition to competition.
What is the rarity bonus?
When you get the exact score right, the game checks what percentage of participants made the same prediction as you. The fewer people, the more extra points you take, across three tiers (rare, very rare, ultra rare). It only applies to exact-score hits, never to outcome hits, and the Joker doubles it. The thresholds and points for each tier vary by competition.
Does the Joker protect me if I get it wrong?
No. The Joker doubles the points for that match, and doubling zero still gives zero. If you miss the match you spent your Joker on, you get 0 points for that match and you've lost your Joker for the matchday.
Are the rules the same in every competition?
The mechanics, yes - exact score, outcome, Joker, rarity bonus, deadlines. The point values, no, and some mechanics exist in certain competitions and not others. Always check the Rules button inside the competition before you start making predictions.

Deadlines and predictions

How long do I have to submit a prediction for a match?
Up to 1 hour before kick-off. After that the card locks and can no longer be edited.
Why does it close 1 hour before rather than at kick-off?
Because starting line-ups are typically announced in that final hour. Closing earlier ensures every participant decides with the same information.
Do I have to click save?
No. Your prediction is saved automatically as you type it, and the card changes colour once it's registered. You can edit it as many times as you like until the deadline.
What happens if I forget to make a prediction?
You inherit the prediction of the automatic AI participant, but you only score the outcome, with no entitlement to the exact-score, Joker or rarity bonuses. There's a limit per competition; once it runs out, matches without a prediction score 0.
Can I see other people's predictions?
Yes, after each match's deadline. Before that, predictions are private. Once the match locks you can open the card and see what each participant went for - and that information stays permanently in the history.
Do I get warnings before deadlines?
Yes: a daily alert when there are matches closing within the next 48 hours, and an alert 4 hours before kick-off for any match you haven't predicted yet. There's also a bell inside the game with your alert history.

Competitions and leagues

Can I play in more than one competition at the same time?
Yes. Each competition is independent, with its own leaderboard, and you switch between them in the selector. See competitions.
Can I join a competition that has already started?
Yes, as long as there are still matches left to predict. But matches already played can't be recovered, and season picks close when the competition begins, so you'll start behind on points.
How do I create a league just for my friends?
Inside the competition, in the leagues section, you create a league and share the invite. You make each prediction once and it counts towards the overall leaderboard and all of your leagues. See private leagues.
Is rarity calculated within my league or across everyone?
Across all participants in the competition. It's the same reference for everyone, regardless of which private leagues they belong to.

Account

What is the nickname and where does it appear?
It's the name you appear under on leaderboards and in leagues, and it's also used to log in. It's required.
Can I sign in with my Google account?
Yes. You can register and sign in with email and password or with your Google account.
I forgot my password. Now what?
On the sign-in screen there's a "Forgot your password?" option. You'll receive an email with a link to set a new one. If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder and then write to us via the contact page.
How do I delete my account?
You can request deletion at delete account. Note that if you already have predictions registered in an ongoing competition, removal may have to wait until that competition ends - your predictions feed into the rarity calculation for other participants, and removing them mid-competition would change other people's scores.
